Designing hard, low-refractive-index lossy materials for super wear-resistant absorbers

Super wear-resistant absorbers are important for next-generation high-stability optical splitters. However, traditional cannot obtain ideal wear resistance because of the limitation hardness. We show that solid solutions transition metal carbides new hard, low-refractive-index lossy materials (HLLM). were obtained by constructing HLLM-based cavities. As a proof-of-concept, absorptance our fabricated Ti0.93W0.07C-based cavity was 95.6% in 400–800 nm wavelength range. In addition, its 23.3 times greater than absorbers. Through experiments and theoretical calculations, we proposed design principles HLLM presented map.
